Nonggirrnga Marawili is one of the most highly regarded artists at Buku Larrnggay Mulka, Yirrkala, Northern Territory for her remarkable bark paintings and Larrakitj.
In her second solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery, Yathikpa, the style of her work represents a shift from the Djapu clan designs of her late husband to those of her own Madarrpa clan.
Nonggirrnga’s organic patterns in her highly sophisticated bark paintings and Larrakitj poles continue to reflect an engrained, natural understanding of her culture, history and environment.
In 2012 she received well-deserved recognition having been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Togart Contemporary Art Award and in 2013 Nonggirrnga Marawili was a finalist in the Arthur Guy Memorial Painting Prize.
