Alcaston Gallery is thrilled to present new paintings by senior Kaiadilt artist NETTA LOOGATHA in her first solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery.
Netta Loogatha first exhibited her paintings in 2005, as one the renowned seven ‘sisters’ from Bentinck Island who burst onto the art scene with their vibrant and unique depictions of their country in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland.
Her vibrant paintings mirror the tropical landscape; her expressive brushstrokes and use of brilliant colour perfectly portray the countless oyster reefs and salt pans that dominate Bentinck Island. Netta celebrates the landscape through her paintings, as well as using her art to teach the younger generation about the history and importance of her country.
Netta Loogatha has featured her paintings in several group exhibitions across Australia, and her work has been collected by major institutions including the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane, UQ Art Museum, Brisbane and the University of Western Sydney, Sydney.
