Artists from Tjala Arts, South Australia return to Alcaston Gallery with exciting new paintings from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands, South Australia. Nganampa Ngura, Nganampa Tjukurpa - Our Country, Our Culture showcases new work from senior men Hector Burton, Ray Ken, Mick Wikilyiri, Ian Roberts, Robert Burton and Stanley Windy.
Anangu country and culture are paramount in this body of work, with each artist deriving inspiration from their traditional tjukurpa and ngura. These sacred stories remain culturally relevant to these men and their community, which are thoughtfully portrayed through striking imagery, stylistic experimentation and intense colour.
These highly sophisticated and contemporary depictions of landscape and Law are a celebration of Anangu culture, both past and present; in this exhibition, the men embrace their traditions, in order to protect their cultural ties for future generations.
