Born circa 1955 and raised in Alice Springs, Douglas Abbott grew up watching Albert Namatjira and the first generation of Hermannsburg watercolour artists paint, and this greatly influenced his art practice. He was encouraged to develop his own style, and with his landscape paintings demonstrates a rich palette of bold reds and lush greens. Douglas’ work has been featured in several exhibitions, and can be found in collections around Australia, including Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra and Newcastle Regional Art Gallery, Newcastle.
Lenie Namatjira is Albert Namatjira’s granddaughter, daughter of Oscar Namatjira, and she paints in the tradition of her father and grandfather. Her watercolour paintings display a subtle, understated palette, yet the landscape west of Hermannsburg is skilfully depicted, which Lenie draws from childhood memories of her country. Her work features in several prominent collections nationally including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney.
