Please join us for hospitality and meet artists Helicopter Tjungurrayi and Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman, who will make the long journey from Balgo Hills, Western Australia. They will be accompanied by artist Jane Gimme and Tracey Grigg from Warlayirti Artists, Balgo Hills, Western Australia.
Wangkartu, Winpurpurla – Soakwaters continuing through time is an exciting exhibition of new paintings by father and daughter, Helicopter Tjungurrayi and Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman.
Esteemed elder and artist, Helicopter Tjungurrayi uses his unique, bold style to depict his country that is dominated by ‘tali’ (sandhills) and ‘tjurnu’ (soakwater). Wangkartu is the soak water where Helicopter spent time as a young man, and a place that he long considers as his home country.
Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman is the daughter of renowned artist Lucy Yukenbarri, who was the late wife of Helicopter Tjungurrayi. Inheriting her mother’s stories, Imelda paints Winpurpurla, the soakwater found within her mother’s country south of Balgo.
Alcaston Gallery has been representing Warlayirti Artists from Balgo Hills, WA since 1989, and we are thrilled to continue to exhibit the art of highly acclaimed and internationally renowned Helicopter Tjungurrayi and Imelda Yukenbarri Gugaman.
