Acclaimed Larrakia artist Gary Lee brings his raw & intimate photographic art to Alcaston Gallery for the first time with Fashion Tatts from 6 March – 30 March 2012.
Fashion Tatts is a unique photographic exhibition that features images of Jesse (from the Love Not War series) whose body acts as a variable, dynamic canvas, revealing the work of renowned tattooist and painter, eX de Medici.
The photographs capture Jesse in a variety of poses, in an attempt to celebrate, as well as abstract, the male form. The images form a narrative, adding a personal, intriguing dimension to the young man’s tattoos, while broader themes of ‘art/fashion’ emerge, alluding to Lee’s background in fashion design during the '80s and early '90s.
A collector’s set (Ed. 1/3) of the six images from the Fashion Tatts series is available in a custom made, archival box for $8,000.00
The exhibition also features photographs of Kenbi Dancers, a dance group comprised predominantly of Larrakia men, adorned in ceremonial body paint. The images represent a continuous expression of culture and identity, while also revealing an innate sense of beauty and individuality in each of the young men that is enhanced by their body paint designs.
