In Antonio E Costa’s world, images & shapes are wedded to the textures of the landscape he has experienced. Born in 1942 in Kenya, his Goan family was the third generation of artists and writers living in Africa.
After a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree taken in Canada, E Costa did a Master’s in Environmental Studies Programme at the University of York, Canada.
All his later work bears the imprint of his professional and experimental work in architectural and urban design as well as the richness of his investigative travels in places varied as Canada, Zimbabwe, Spain, U.S.A, Angola, Brazil and India, where he painted, exhibited, participated in artists’ workshops and lectured in art colleges.
A member of the Society of Canadian artists and of Visual Arts, Ontario, Canada, Antonio E Costa’s work takes essentially a mixed-media approach: cross referencing the materials drawn from industrial societies with found forms and inspiration drawn from societies which are lesser developed but culturally richer. Rooted only in the changing relationship between artist and the world, Antonio E Costa is constantly analyzing, constantly learning but is always open to change, in both his work and his life.
