Prabda started to think about painting portraits of imaginary machines when he started to feel that contemporary technology is becoming increasingly flat, characterless, too slick. He started to miss what now must seem to consumers to be “awkward” objects, such as bulky typewriters with big key blocks or fat TV sets with huge tuning knobs and long antenna sticking out. The sentiment made him want to create his own “old-fashioned” machines, machines with a sense of individuality, like people. Since he knew nothing about creating real machines, He decided to make them up in his head, then try his best to translate the images in his head into paintings.

Prabda Yoon, born in Bangkok in 1973, is a writer, publisher, translator, and graphic designer. Graduated with a Fine Arts degree from the Cooper Union in New York City in 1997, Prabda continues to make art in his spare time. He has occasionally exhibited his paintings, photographs, and installations in Thailand as well as in Japan.
