The Mythic and the Epic: Pre-modern Indian Sculpture and Painting
by Aicon Gallery, London
Location: Aicon Gallery, London
Date: 13 May - 11 Jun 2011

Aicon Gallery, London, is delighted to present "The Mythic and the Epic", our first show in our London gallery that looks at pre-modern Indian art. The exhibition draws out the blend of simplicity and richness that characterizes Indian art from its early forms through to recent art. The exhibition is curated by Aicon New York's director Theresa McCullough, previously a Director of Sotheby's Indian and Southeast Asian Department. There will also be an exhibition of highlights from the recent Ram Kumar retrospective in the lower gallery.

The sculpture collection ranges in date from 2nd/3rd century AD Kushan Period to 12th/13th century Hoysala Period in Southern India. Highlights include a very fine Lion Protome, Northern India, Kushan Period, 2nd/3rd century, red mottled sandstone, from the collection of J. R. Pons, Spain, 1970's.
