Mahmoud Kalari is an internationally renowned photographer, cinematographer and art director. Kalari has collaborated with cinematic masters such as Abbes Kiartostami and Mohsen Makhmalbaf and has personally directed one film.
Kalari was awarded the Buenos Aires-Argentina Film Festival’s first prize, and is using the attendant $625,000.00 grant to create his second movie, Khab ba Roya.
Mahmoud Kalari uses his camera to capture the nuances of ever unfolding human stories. His two series, The Miners and the Women of the Profession, depict the essence of the life story of each subject, especially within the framework of societies in the Middle East.
Breaking the Mould, a joint project with Ali Rahbar, is a strong statement on the social implications of assimilation and on the weight of an individual’s socio-cultural upbringing.
