Award winning New Zealand artist, Chris Pole, will show new works, done during his Vision Culture Art Residency at Shalini Ganendra Fine Art. Pole works will include oils and drawings, focusing on architectural , urban and rural landscapes, superimposed with textual and literary allusions of short phrases or words. His works in the past has fused realism and precision with a ‘flattening’ perspective which focuses on the background as much as the foreground of the composition. Pole suggests this naïve quality lends his painting the feel of an ‘alternative’ reality - a sense which is enhanced by the lack of human presence in the works.
He has hosted numerous solo and group exhibitions within New Zealand, and been selected as a finalist for the Wallace Art Awards two years running (2011, 2012) and the Park Lane Art Awards in Auckland (2006). He has won Merit Awards from the Anthony Harper CoCA Art Awards (2010) and the Lake Taupo Open Art Awards at the Lake Taupo Museum of Art and History (2003), as well as the Margaret Stoddart Prize at the Centre of Contemporary Art (2002).
