Signifying Infinity─The Power of Contemporary Symbol
by Da Xiang Art Space
Location: Da Xiang Art Space
Date: 2 Oct - 7 Nov 2010

What is the symbol? The meaning of symbol is not only the crash we got immediately by sense organs but more that we hope people will be touched with the language toward the symbol while he/her visiting the exhibition. “Signifying Infinity-The Power of Contemporary Symbols”, hold in 2010.10.2 at Da Xiang Art Space in Taichung, is going to tell artists’ confection with their own symbols about the various life experience.

Moderated by Liú Yung-Jen and invited six artists with different generations, it can be viewed as a retrospective exhibition of Taiwanese and Italian artistic exchanges.

The multifarious posture of Chihung Yang’s natural plants, with their attendant shapes, colors and fragrances, form a mutually echoing harmony amidst a deeply muddled, chaotic sense of motion.

Franco Mazzucchelli constructs his trademark gonfiabili space of polystyrene and PVC in an exploration of the natural and the artificial and the nebulous relationships of the intrinsic and the extrinsic.

Mauro Lovi’s paintings present the tranquility of a meditation session, portraying enigmatic solitary spaces and expressing a tranquil, dreamlike scene of contemplation, much like the internal soliloquy during meditation.

Antonio Samartano’s paintings insert vestiges of reflected light at their periphery, an indicator of the deep light of the Mediterranean.

Liú Yung-Jen’s “breathing concept” gave form to triangular or irregularly shaped symbols. Wandering above his vast expanse of space once moves from expansion to compression with the fixed composition of the symbols striving for equilibrium of tension.

Kuo’s works combine painting with ready-made objects, transforming the visual markers of everyday life and festivities in an exploration of the intimate feel of cultural roots and a fantastical reordering of space.

Symbol is like language can be memorized in viewers mind. The inner idea can pass far way unlimitedly, and make some sympathy no matter where you come from or how old you are. We try to make a different interpretation of the contemporary sprit let the viewers admire these creations and extend the unexpected power of art. It is our honor to invite you to join us and experience the symbols’ attraction.
