Sydney Interiors
by Dominik Mersch Gallery
Location: Dominik Mersch Gallery
Artist(s): Isidro BLASCO
Date: 10 Aug - 7 Sep 2013

Isidro Blasco is a Spanish artist, who has been living in New York since 1996. For his third exhibition with DOMINIK MERSCH GALLERY, he is using two month residency in Sydney to create his new body of work.

In this initial phase of the project, Isidro Blasco took photos inside the homes of creative people living in Sydney. The photos document one or more rooms of each home in a panoramic fashion. Using these images with some structural and connecting materials, the artist built fragmented structures of varying sizes.

The people who have been invited to be involved in the projects are all part of Sydney's art scene, or somehow connected to it. The interiors belong to architects, artists, musicians, designers, dancers, writers, radio personalities, and even surfers (artists of the waves). The homes and workspaces of more than 30 Sydneysiders are featured in the project, some of them well known household names, Blasco is very much interested in conveying the feeling of each interior, from the distribution of the rooms, and how all of the different elements reflect the personality of the individual who lives in the space.

Blasco is exhibiting worldwide (USA, Spain, China, ...) and his works are been collected by MOMA, NYC, Whitney Museum, NYC, Baltimore Museum of Art to mention a few.
