This exhibition marks the artist’s first museum solo exhibition in India and her first exhibition in Mumbai. Over half the works exhibited here are on view for the first time in India including major new works from the last two years.
Ranjani Shettar, born in Bangalore in 1977, lives and works in the countryside in Malnad region, Karnataka. Over the last decade Shettar has had solo exhibitions at National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne, Australia (2011); San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA), CA (2009); Modern Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas (2008-09); and Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), Boston (2008). Her works have been featured in other major exhibitions worldwide at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), NY (2010); Liverpool Biennial, England (2010); Carnegie International @ Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh (2008); Sharjah Biennial, Sharjah (2007); and the Sydney Biennale, Australia (2006); and The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2003). Earlier this month the Library Council at Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), NY launched her artist’s book project, Varsha.
