Nature Morte is pleased to present a solo exhibition of new works by the New Delhi-based artist M Pravat. Pravat’s new works examine architectural forms through a fractured lens. Through the frenzy of visual stimuli which we are bombarded by daily we lose clarity, our hindered ability to focus is mimicked in Pravat’s deconstruction of architectural plans and scientific notations. The works on view will all be abstract oil paintings in a grand scale even though many of the works were originally conceived as small drawings. His language encompasses the vocabularies of design, engineering, biology and digital imaging, extending painting into exciting new realms.

As a painter, M Pravat’s self-described concerns “lie in representing the theatricality and staging of our everyday lives.” The idea of staging in Pravat’s work is the embrace of an idea that we all live in a continual state of process. The paintings explore this “under-construction” state, both literally and metaphorically.

M. Pravat completed his Bachelor’s degree in painting in 2002 and his Master’s in 2004, both granted by the Faculty of Fine Arts at M.S. University, Baroda. M. Pravat has previously had two solo shows with Delhi’s Anant Art Gallery and one at Nature Morte’s Annex space (2008). He has participated in a wide number of group shows in New Delhi, Mumbai and Baroda and was the recipient of a Pro Helvetia artist residency in Switzerland in 2010, where many of the works in our current show were conceived.
