Nadi Gallery proudly presents the works of Gatot Pujiarto, Made Wiguna Valasara, and Rudayat in this exhibition, which is conducted in good cooperation with the Selasar Sunaryo Art Space (SSAS). This exhibition begins with a residency program and workshop for Indonesian artists titled transit #1 at the SSAS in April-June 2011.

The transit #1 residency program marks the beginning of SSAS’ new program, which is planned to be held biyearly with the involvement of other young Indonesian artists. For the transit #1, the SSAS invites three young artists from different cities in Indonesia (Gatot from Malang, Valasara from Yogyakarta/Sukawati, and Rudayat from Bandung) to stay and work in the hilltop, cool areas of Dago Pakar. Unlike other general art residency program, this program allows artists to be assisted by discussion partners while producing their art. The discussion partners consist of art critics and curators: Sunaryo, Hendro Wiyanto, and Agung Hujatnikajennong.

The result of the transit #1 program is the collection of artworks displayed in the “Unload – Reload” (bongkar-muat) at SSAS in 4-25 November 2011. I had a chance to see the exhibition myself. In a discussion with Sunaryo as the director of SSAS, an idea about bridging cooperation to recreate the exhibition in Jakarta arose. I was very positive about the idea, because I believe that the transit #1 residency program has managed to push artists towards further artistic achievements. In Nadi Gallery’s presentation this time, several new artworks made by artists after the residency period are also displayed.

In particular, I would like to extend gratitude to Sunaryo who has introduced this program. We feel honored for being involved in this cooperation. It is an integral part of Nadi Gallery’s mission to continue prospering relationships with various stakeholders in order to continually enrich the heritage of the contemporary art practice in Indonesia. I would also like to extend gratitude to the organizers from SSAS as well as all parties involved in the conduct of this exhibition.

To Gatot Pujiarto, Made Wiguna Valasara, and Rudayat, I would like to say: have a great exhibition! Hopefully the creative process undergone during the residency period may continually boost the energy and the creativity of works in the future.
