Four Paintings
by Bombay Art Gallery
Location: Bombay Art Gallery
Artist(s): Rajan KRISHNAN
Date: 21 Apr - 15 May 2009

The present show, 'Four Paintings', marks a significant shift in the artistic career of Rajan Krishnan. Coming after 'Ore/Substances of Earth,' (Bodhi Space, Mumbai, 2008) a multi-media show consisting of paintings, a massive terracota installation and a video, and 'Re-visit,' (Oed Basement, Kochi, 2008) in which Krishnan presented a 'revisit,' to the collective working process that created 'ORE,' the present show has only four large paintings.

Krishnan purports to focus on the triumph of memory over oblivion through his language of painting. Each of the four paintings refers back to the works that had been part of his earlier Shows, 'Enroute,' (Mumbai, 2006 / Bombay Art Gallery), 'Embryo,' (Art Singapore, 2006 / Bodhi Art)) and 'Ore / Substances of Earth-I,' as well as to an earlier phase that was manifested in the work Krishnan had done for the 'Double-Enders,' (2005), curated by Bose Krishnamachari. The works in 'Four Paintings' turn out to be a 'Memoir,' of those shows, of those phases in his career.
