Sally Gabori On-line Exhibition
by Michael Reid Gallery
Location: Michael Reid Website
Artist(s): Sally GABORI
Date: 29 Oct - 29 Dec 2009

In 2005, a number of elderly ladies from the Aged Persons' Hostel on Mornington Island were invited to a local arts and crafts centre. Out of this valuable everyday initiative to get older people out and about, a new, vibrant indigenous art movement was born, with Sally Gabori aged over eighty, painfully shy and with no painting experience, as its unlikely leader.

Gabori's success was almost instantaneous.
In 2008 Sally Gabori was one of 16 finalists in the inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Award, held at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth. She was chosen as an exciting emerging artist by the Gallery of Modern Art, Queensland Art Gallery and featured in Optimism, 15 Nov 2008- 22 Feb 2009. Sally was also a finalist in the 26th Telstra National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Art Award. Major paintings have been acquired by important private and public collections including the Musee du quai Branly, Paris, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne and the Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane.

Un-stretched paintings have been reduced by $500 to accommodate the cost and inconvenience of stretching.

All works are available for viewing at 44 Roslyn Gardens Elizabeth Bay NSW 2011
