Human Shell
by Whitespace Gallery
Location: Whitespace Gallery
Artist(s): Kraising SUDSA-NGUAN
Date: 23 Aug - 24 Oct 2014

Whitespace Gallery Bangkok presents the 2nd solo exhibition “Human Shell” by Kraising Sudsa-nguan.

The human body consists of four elements, earth, water, wind and fire. The body grows old and decays over time, merely a shell of human appearance used for human perception. The various senses: taste, smell and sound all create feelings of passion, greed, anger and delusion. It’s human nature that we seek answers and solutions through the constructs of ‘religion’.

Artist Statement:

There was a time in my life when I enjoyed living the beautiful dream of a life where everything I could ever want would be provided for me. A perfect state of perpetual praise, money, fortune and love.

On the other hand I also faced the suffering of being caught in a virtual trap. A darkness that filled my life and was absent of any solution. Unable to raise off the ground, having sunk too deeply in misery and despair; I felt completely exhausted of every sense of identity. Left with only a dire mood and in such distress, I felt like there was a great fire burning inside my bodily human shell. Heat from a molten lava flowing out of every pore on my body, deafening all the senses; as if I stood amidst open fields of fire.

It was then I understood the meaning of Toknarokhangpen. The body is just a shell, a dead carcass worn during my lifetime, one which I see is filled with suffering. Understanding this felt like understanding life itself. Over time I was surprised as this consciousness felt like like droplets of water. Slowly dripping onto the blaze within me, drop by drop….drop by drop, until the heat is cooled and eventually put out.

Droplets of consciousness that cause wisdom and encourages mindfulness, considering life occurs in this manner….one can walk consciously away.
