S Code
by Koi Art Gallery
Location: Koi Art Gallery
Artist(s): Sarawut YASAMUT
Date: 4 Apr - 30 Apr 2014

S Code” is a solo exhibition of latest artworks by Sarawut Yasamut, a talented artist with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Thailand’s renowned Silpakorn University. In this exhibition, the artist illustrates how the media has seeped into the aesthetic and functionality of the 21st century.

Today’s generation portrays fixated fascination with instant communication. Social media tools such as facebook, twitter, instagram, whatsapp, blackberry, and countless other forms of communication devices have not only accelerated the process of thought, response, and information but have also garnered an aesthetic quality to its rhythm and space in the way audiences view these platforms. Exploring the imaginary essentiality with always being connected online, Thai artist Sarawut’s paintings ironically portray the digital through traditional painting techniques.

Criticizing the world’s opinion on every topic possible creates infinite possibility for people to connect, collaborate, and accumulate knowledge with merely few clicks. The artist showcases this ability through his paintings, especially where one is media-friendly. Using a blackberry or android system, the artist has infused a code into a particular painting where the viewer can reach a specific link by scanning the barcode. This interaction between art and technology activates viewers to turn into both art appreciators and media users concurrently.

Sarawut’s painting display colorful modes, pixilated imagery and significant correlation with today’s generation. An undeniable desire to find ‘S Code’ that is disguised in the artist’s works will lead viewers to a thought-filled discovery this April.
