Art Berlin Contemporary
by Carbon 12
Location: Carbon 12
Artist(s): Sara RAHBAR
Date: 13 Sep - 16 Sep 2012

Carbon 12 is delighted to announce its first participation at abc. The gallery will be presenting works by Sara Rahbar.

abc art berlin contemporary will take place from the 13th - 16th of September at Station Berlin at Gleisdreieck and is a partner of the newly founded Berlin Art Week. The exhibition format was developed for international galleries by the Berlin galleries Guido W. Baudach, Mehdi Chouakri, Galerie Kamm, Klosterfelde, Meyer Riegger, Galerie Neu, neugerriemschneider, Esther Schipper and Zak Branicka to present individual positions in contemporary art from around the world in Berlin.

This year, 127 international galleries have been invited by the organizers. While in recent years the selection of artworks was based on an overarching theme, this year the galleries were encouraged to submit their own positions. The selection and compilation was done by the organizers of abc and selected curators. The experimental format of this sales show reflects the fact that Berlin is a production base for many international artists. The work is at the forefront – the participating galleries are not presenting their program, but rather act as curators for their artists.

Artists Space from New York was invited to organize two "interventions" and a lecture series. Founded in 1972 by New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support young artists, the institution deals with new forms of production, the relationship between the art market and institutional conditions, and the presentation of art work. As part of the abc, Artists Space has selected an additional 30 international creatives – from publishers to cinemas and film distributors, to architects, record labels and urban planners – to present their projects on over 3000 square meters in the entrance hall.

127 galleries from 18 countries will participate: 67 galleries from Berlin, 8 from Vienna; 5 from London; 4 each from Dubai, New York und Zurich; 3 each from Paris; 2 each from Beijing, Cape Town, Frankfurt, Malmö, Milan, Munich and Rome; and 1 each from Antwerp, Bremen, Catania, Copenhagen, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Glasgow, Hamburg, Helsinki, Hong Kong, Innsbruck, Istanbul, Jeddah, Karlsruhe, Cologne, Naples, Prague and Seoul.
