New Wave - British Art Today: ground-breaking exhibition
by Etemad Gallery
Location: Etemad Gallery Dubai
Date: 14 Mar - 13 Apr 2011

Gallery Etemad, one of the Middle East’s most prominent contemporary art galleries, is pleased to announce the grand opening of Etemad Dubai: a spectacular new venue that takes the lead in the United Arab Emirates’ cultural epicentre. The gallery opens to the public on March 14 with the ground-breaking exhibition “New Wave – British Art Today”.

Founded in 2002, Etemad’s flagship Tehran gallery is internationally renowned for its exclusive stable of the most exciting artists working in Iran today. Leading the Young Iranian Art movement that’s currently sweeping the globe, Gallery Etemad’s artists feature in biennales, museums, and important collections world-wide. Etemad’s established reputation as a premier art consultant is built on its long standing record of primary and secondary market facilitation; Etemad’s advisory services are regularly used by the world’s most high-profile collectors as well as private connoisseurs.

The launch of Etemad Dubai expands upon the vision to celebrate the Middle East as a global leader at the forefront of cultural production and exchange. One of the largest galleries in Dubai, Etemad’s lavish 7500 ft² converted warehouse space is located in the Al Serkal Avenue area in the Al Quoz district; its state-of-the-art minimalist architecture is specially designed to showcase museum quality works by top international artists.

Etemad Dubai’s constantly expanding, regionally exclusive, roster of artists features luminary and sought after contemporary practitioners from America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Engaging Dubai’s cosmopolitan audiences through exhibitions which are internationally focussed and at the cutting-edge of global debates, the gallery’s programme is committed to promoting the very best contemporary Middle Eastern art as well as premiering acclaimed international artists never before seen in the Gulf. Pushing the boundaries of how contemporary art is appreciated and perceived, artworks featured at Etemad Dubai transcend traditional media, making processes, and artistic contexts to embody the vanguard of creative innovation. Ranging from abstraction to figuration and exploring a diversity of unique aesthetic styles, the gallery’s exhibitions offer up-to-the-minute profiles of the latest art dialogues and movements.

Etemad Dubai’s inaugural exhibition “New Wave – British Art Today” debuts Tasha Amini, Tom Ellis, Mustafa Hulusi, Dan Perfect, and Petroc Sesti in the Emirates. Having recently featured in the Saatchi Gallery’s “Newspeak: British Art Now” exhibition and the famous “Tunnel 228” project in London, these artists are part of a new generation taking the UK art world by storm. Varied in techniques, aesthetics, and subject matter, their works present unique ways of conceiving how traditionally crafted artworks can be made (and made meaningful) in today’s globalised, media-saturated world. Taking an ultra-contemporary stance in relation to the conception and production of their work, the artists in “New Wave – British Art Today” rethink the principles of painting and sculpture, creating a new brand of art that is provocative, techno-savvy, and extraordinarily beautiful.
