Pham Huy Thong began his career in art as an illustrator and graphic designer. Always intrigued by painting, he entered a piece in the Asia Vision Arts Competition and won a prize, which encouraged him to pursue fine art as a full time job. It has paid off beautifully, with Thong embarking on his second major solo exhibition in Hanoi and his work having been shown all around Asia in important group shows. As part of the generation of young painters in Vietnam who paint their world with a pop art sensibility, Thong establishes himself as one who is not afraid to take that idea to another level. The "Dong Bao" series, on display at The Bui Gallery in December 2010, proves this beyond a doubt.
