Dorothy Yoon presents an outstanding new series of her most recent works, which have never been shown before, at Salon Contemporary for their UK and Europe debut. The series, Rococo No. 33, draws inspiration from the 33 Buddhist Goddesses - guardians of humanity, health, heaven and hell, to form the foundations for the portraits of 33 Asian women photographed by the artist. These modern-day Bohisattvas were styled on illustrious Rococo paintings with meticulous attention to details, including location and composition for the photographs, and Yoon effortlessly manages harmonise this converge between the East and the West. The photographs have each been given titles, printed discreetly on the works in Korean calligraphy, attaining to the name of the Bodhisattvas they reference and hand painted flowers adorn the works, confirming them as exceptional, unique editions. This intoxicatingly beautiful series will be on display at Salon Contemporary in spring 2011.
