Peter Zimmermann called one of 'today's masters' by Galerie Perrotin is opening the second exhibition of Asia in Busan after Hong Kong, and 24 recent paintings are exhibited. 'Concept' of his work is made of digital through computer technology. Whereas the 'practice' is accomplished by the artist's hands. Surface of completed work began to get a sensual materiality, sleek and shining color, so that people cannot notice that the concept is made by the computer. Enrich color and layered characteristic of relief in painting work can't be done by digital medium. On the work process, computer technology helped paintings and paintings could regain missed aspects as shifting a motif of digital image to canvas. Materiality, it is a main factor to distinguish between painting and media image.

For his works, Peter Zimmermann said "Glittering is connected to painting. Oil painting and strong stroke like Van Gogh are cliche which I didn't want to be linked to. When I found such surface, I thought it would help to tell what meanings painting has in the contemporary society, the media dominant era. At the beginning, I thought main work could be done by the computer. However, I realized printed results look same, so that I came back to the painting. I wanted to have a process similar with printouts with yellow, magenta and layered blue, and it became possible as overlapping colors with resin."

Through such process, the artist wants to deconstruct the traditional painterly concept and reveal a power of cultural meaning formed in terms of visual custom. This is aesthetic of trick created in his painting as using various simulation technologies, such as sampling and remixing. Materiality of vivid and sensual painting surface tells that it is produced by painting and an example of uniqueness. Painting is an attractive and gleaming affair and the accidental moment shows a paradigm of modernity by itself.
