Johyun Gallery Busan is delightful to introduce Dongi Lee's exhibition. This large scale exhibition will introduce 60 paintings from 2007 to now, including 'Atomause', 'Bubbles', and ' Double vision' series. 

Dongi Lee has developed Korean pop art as responding to a flow of contemporary art and pop culture. The exhibition aims to look back Korean pop art and celebrate 20th anniversary of the birth of 'Atomause'. 

His hallmark 'Atomause' was created from a mix of 'Atom', Japanese animation character and 'Mickey Mouse'. As the young generation born in 1970s with these animations, he made a familiar but new character. 

"My work is a sort of eclecticism. Various visual styles are coexisting in one art work and there are mingled different and contradict contents." - Dongi Lee

Many images in his works are related to complicated elements in the world. There is a dichotomous way of thinking, such as abstract and conception, material and spirit, elite culture and pop culture, or unearthliness and simulacre, to show the mixture of works.

From the past, he has said "I want to be the artist creating nothing, and not-creating is very natural." He expresses it as being away from objective world without any opinion or judgement. However, it is a different concept with 'subjective' or 'anti-objective'. Instead, balance and coexistence between different or conflicting fields are the art world Dongi Lee seeks.
