Lila Jang Solo Exhibition
by Johyun Gallery
Location: Johyun Gallery Busan
Artist(s): Lila JANG
Date: 6 Sep - 7 Oct 2012

Johyun gallery Busan is pleased to announce Lila Jang's solo exhibition. In her first exhibition in Korea, the artists turns her eyes upon familiar objects with own wit, and makes us think about a boundary between definition and essence of object each one contains through modified figure.

"An object we talk about has a name, and all objects called their name have own role in terms of each name. A life and attitude in terms of particular name get the appropriateness, but it looks like a prison made to sustain a society by human to me. Each object is struggling to show the existence in each name." - Lila Jang

As throwing a doubt on the universality of cultural custom which formed in diversified modern society, Jang shows uniform thoughts and simplified paradigm shift by learning, using her own sensual visual images. Such as a chair but cannot be seated, or a dresser but cannot store, deformed and different  factors create objects losing instrumental value and they expose their irony.

A bent sofa stuck in the wall and a huge chair leg, these contain the artist's humor. She said all objects have own form and name in terms of function, but she wanted to give the individuality to them, but didn't change a form too drastically. If once they lost natural figure by excessive change, would have no meaning at all, thus the artist  has decorated the artwork as it evolves by itself.

"I try to settle for the present, but sometimes get a desire for escape from the boredom of familiarity. My artwork represents us who are on the middle of reality and utopia." - Lila Jang
