Kim Ji Won, born in 1961, graduated from Inha University with a major in Fine Arts Education and Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste Städelschul Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and currently teaches as a professor of School of Visual Arts at Korea National University of Arts. Working in various series such as Mendrami, Take Off and Aircraft Carrier, Kim diligently explores topics of everyday lives and society through the medium of painting.
Since the late 1990's, through his series such as The Beginning of Painting–In the Corner, Similar Wall, Same Wall, Daily Life, Vinyl Painting and Still Life, Kim has been continuing painterly studies in relation to ways of thinking, exchanging conversations with his works, throwing monologue-like compound questions on the artist himself and his everyday lives, order within objects, and the relationship between the fundamental elements of painting and images. Conceived in 2003, Mendrami’s a still life series, representative of the artist, in progress till today.
Currently, his works are included in the collections of Leeum Samsung Museum of Art, The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Sonje Center, Kumho Museum of Art, Busan Museum of Art, Hite Collection, Soma Museum, Hana Bank and more.
