Revelation
by Jehangir Art Gallery
Location: Jehangir Art Gallery
Artist(s): Hemraj
Date: 20 Sep - 25 Sep 2010

Artist Hemraj brings his latest collection ‘Revelations’ to Mumbai. He will be doing a solo exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai starting Monday 20th to 25th September 2010.

Revelation is inspired from the idea of a dynamic human mind. In this collection, he aims to address the importance of instinct, as well as the theme of mind over matter. According to Hemraj, the world of abstract art is quite fascinating; it has its own charm and its own rules and regulations, unlike the prevailing notions in some quarters.

“India, have a good degree of imaginative content, colour orientation and a brooding quality which will both engage as well as tickle one’s imagination. Certain formal and colour based experiments have been carried out and I hope these will both engage and entertain my audience and I hope my works will remain long in their memory”as said by artist Hemraj.

THE ABSTRACT CONTEMPOARY PAINTER

Whenever contemporary Indian art is mentioned, Hemraj’s name automatically comes up. In Delhi’s art world, he is a familiar face. But even when famous Indian painters are mentioned, Hemraj sits close to modern masters of Abstractionism. Working mostly in oil, Hemraj has produced a remarkable body of oil painting over the years. Top Indian art galleries have been dealing in his works both in Delhi as well as Mumbai. Their well tested assessment is that he is one of the most sale-able Indian painters in abstract vein. Personally, one of the most humble benign an unassuming person, ready to communicate and reciprocate. There are few fine – artists who would match him. He is a class to artist like Atul Dodiya, Subodh Gupta & the veteran master of line, M.F. Hussain. Contribution of this fine artist to the contemporary art of the abstract genera is both substantial and significant.

About Artist Hemraj:

Born June, 1968, Hemraj is one of the most promising young, contemporary artists on the Indian art scene. Initiated into the arts by his father, Hemraj joined the College of Art, New Delhi in 1991, where his creativity was given form and discipline. During his college years, Hemraj received plenty of awards and accolades, which reinforced his abstract style of painting. Right after completing his formal education, Hemraj received the Lalit Kala Research Grant, which kickstarted his career as an artist. He began showing at some of capital city’s most prestigious galleries such as Dhoomi Mal.

International recognition came to Hemraj as early as 1992, when he participated in a group show in Denmark. His collection of paintings has found way into several private collections in India and abroad - the Germans being the most ardent admirers of Hemraj’s work.

Hemraj is a member of the Academy of Visual Arts, and has been honoured with two films dedicated to his life: the first a documentary film directed by Mr. H. K. Handa for Delhi Doordarshan, and the second a documentary film directed by Mrs Nilofar from Delhi Doordarshan.
