Gary-Ross Pastrana’s works are included in important collections, earned the praise of his colleagues and graced the walls of exhibitions, museums, and art fairs both locally and abroad. Recently, his works were the cornerstone of the Silverlens presentations at VOLTA 7 art fair in Basel, Switzerland.
This time around, Pastrana channels his artistic concepts to the direction of other artists by curating On the Radar: Six New Symptoms. Here, he works with several unique young artists, carefully selected and brought together.
Believing in their aptitude, Pastrana encouraged Catalina Africa, Dina Gadia, Gail and Marija Vicente, Ryan Villamael and Maria Jeona to carry out their usual work into new territory by magnifying a certain aspect of their practice or challenging themselves. The curator aims that the exhibit will “further illustrate each artist’s great potential and somehow signal what other great works they might do in the future.”
Neither commanding nor pressuring them, Pastrana acts as a guide for these young creative minds.
A collaboration to watch out for, On the Radar: Six New Symptoms curated by Gary-Ross Pastrana opens on June 29, Wednesday, 6-9pm, simultaneously with A Token of Our Friendship, Philippine Photos of Male Affection, First Half of the 20th Century curated by John Silva at Silverlens Main and Few and Far Between by Hanna Pettyjohn at 20SQUARE. The three shows will run until July 30.
