Celebrate the contemporary view of abstract art with us this week when Totally Unrealistic: the art of abstraction opens this Thursday. Featuring artists Ralph Joachim, Cecil C. Childress and Marilyn Kuksht, Totally Unrealistic will dazzle you with Kuksht's massive iron and steel sculptures set off by the paintings of Joachim and Childress. Come at 6:00pm for a special introduction to the works by the artists and stay to celebrate from 6:30pm to 9:00pm.

In conjunction with Totally Unrealistic: the art of abstraction, SOMArts presents Night Light: Multimedia Garden Party on Saturday, July 17 from 9:00pm to 1:00am. This one-night-only multimedia extravanganza is creating a lot of buzz! Site-specific film installations will spill through the bamboo grove on monitors sprinkled throughout the driveway. There will be ambient sound performances and amorphous video projections. We recommend advance registration. A suggested donation of $10 - $5 supports our ability to offer diverse and exciting programs, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Photographers of all ages and skill levels are invited to join SOMArts and CaliberSF for a walk through the streets of SoMa on Sunday, July 18. Meet at SOMArts at 3:00pm before setting off to explore and document the local urban landscape. After the walk, photographers are invited to meet back at SOMArts, enjoy pizza & drinks and share photos. Tickets are a suggested donation of $10 which includes refreshments. Please consider signing up in advance to help us get enough pizza for everyone! The CaliberSF SoMa Photowalk is part of the SOMArts Studio Series.

We are looking for a few good volunteers in July. We are seeking event assistants to help out at the Night Light event on Saturday, July 17 and at the CaliberSF SoMa Photowalk on Sunday, July 18. We also need a volunteer for a few hours of cutting, labeling and filing lighting gels and one for a few hours of painting benches.
