September, 2013. I was in my friend’s studio in Lyon, France. Because I planned to attend the opening ceremony of my husband in Kunst Halle Rostock, German, she booked the train tickets for me which would take 9 hours and 2 transfers. I just start my dangerous and surprising journey.

As I took on the MRT less than 30 minutes, the broadcast started speaking the language I had never heard. The voice was lazy and impatient. The people around started making exclamation, so I thought this was not a good news. Then the train ran at 30 kilometers per hour. It was not fast at all.

The train broke down after all. I got off the train at the station which I should get transfer, but been pushed onto the train by the master, he told me the next train won’t come. The lady on the train checked the latest transfer information for me that I have to transfer 4 times to get to the Rostock. Unfortunately, my next train broke, too. When I took off at the third transfer station, the next train was already drove away. I looked out the window. It was 9:00 at night. The temperature dropped from 30 degrees to 10 degrees. Besides the coldness, I felt worry and nervous. My whole body trembled in the train.

At this time, a fat lady moved to my side slowly. People in this train were all from the north of German. They only speak Russian and German so I use English to ask them if there will be the next train, nobody can understand. But this fat lady stared at me all the time. When I was ready to get off the train, she pulled me right away and suggested me follow her. I found out there was nobody in this platform and the platform number were only 1, 4, 11, 141, 144. I had to cross the small forest to get platform 144 which I should go. At the same time, a tall man and a young boy appeared from the both side of the small forest. In the dark platform, we waited for the last train which may come or not.

The three of them reached a consensus immediately and looked at me. They tried hard to tell me something, but I can’t understand. They can’t understand me, either. In the end, the boy took the watch and told me the last train will be here at 11:30. I looked at the watch. It was 9:30. It meant we have to wait for 2 hours in the degree below 10. I wanted to go to the toilet but the station had been closed so the toilet also been locked. The man figured out I want to go the restroom, so he asked the boy to find if there was a toilet nearby. The boy found out there was a portable toilet outside the substation. He crossed the chain-link fence lightly and opened the lock. Then he led me step over the high bushes. He checked the restroom is clean or not, and put his cellphone as a flashlight there for me. Then gestured me that he will wait for me outside and no need to be nervous. I was so touched because they were very kind and enthusiastic. After I finished, they waited for me for taking the last train. They sat around me like they were escorting me to the end. After we took off the train then met up my husband, they left. It was already 1:30.

When I came back to France, I told my friend this unforgettable experience. She took me to a time-honored cookie bakery. The wooden templates of that bakery have many patterns, like the king, the hen and the cat knight. It was been said that they were the local elf in legend. They will give a hand when travelers happen into trouble. I thought it was very interesting. Because no matter which country you come from, when you are in trouble, you must hope the god you believe will come to help you, then the 3 people somehow showed up. They just like 3 elf standing in front of me, said: We got your agitation. We are here for you.

I believe this kind of experience happens in many people’s subconscious, so I concretize the experience to a series of sculptures and paintings. Maybe it will let you pay more attention to the agitation inadvertently in life.
