This June, Open Source Gallery will inaugurate its annual residency with emerging Austrian Artists. The gallery’s focus being community, Monika Wuhrer - the co-owner - is hoping to reconnect with her homeland by bridging her current residence with her country of birth. Cross-pollination and mutual growth through the exchange of ideas, culminating in a gallery exhibition, is the goal. Having grown up in Vorarlberg, Austria, the mountains bring back vivid memories of an alpine childhood. So for the first residents we have chosen Severin Hagen and Sebastian Koch, fellow Vorarlbergers.
The Artists will work over the duration of one month in the gallery, in plain view of the public. Open Source Gallery is a small storefront space with a prominent street presence. The idea being that neighbors and pedestrians will have ample opportunity to interact with the artists in the process of the making of the work. This will help to inform the exhibition at the end of the month. Subsequently, we will have a formal opening and present the finished work to the public.
