Discussion session with conceptual artist Aruna Witte: Counterpoint
by Sunaparanta- Goa Centre for the Arts
Location: Sunaparanta - Goa Centre for the Arts
Artist(s): Aruna WITTE
Date: 16 Mar - 16 Mar 2010

These selected works of Aruna Witte’s in this exhibition cover work that developed in India, UK and Canada, and to some extent the different countries have some influence on the work itself. This exhibition consists of paintings, silkscreen prints, collage, and watercolours. Her work generally leans towards a conceptual realization and can be broken down to two aspects – one mathematical, and other organic. With the mathematical conceptual point of reference this work emerges initially from sets of numbers, variants, and combinations. It is as if the finished work is a controlled inevitability. The work, although abstractions, have very close references to particular images, objects, and or develop using a direct source from nature.

Aruna has a studied and classical background in the arts, sciences, music, literature, and dance. She is widely travelled and has had a comprehensive exposure to many professional working artists in the UK, U.S.A, and Canada. She has passion for black and white photography, which she pursued in UK. She has also written a short story titled ‘My History’ privately published in UK, limited editions, illustrated by Andrew Lanyon, son of famous British painter Peter Lanyon from Cornwall, UK – and a short novel titled ‘Veil of Deception’.
