‘Friendship’ is a small word, but it can hold a significant meaning. For some people, it is the trust between two individuals. For others, it is unconditional love. Another common definition is companionship. The definitions commonly offered are based on individual experiences. Without knowing the true meaning of friendship, it is impossible to give it a real value. Although it may be easy to be friends with everyone; but it is far more difficult to find true friends who will remain loyal, even during the hardships of life. In many cultures, true friends are considered the gifts of God, and friendship is considered eternal.
According to ‘Chang Silp 28’, a group of alumni from the College of Fine Arts, friendship can be bigger than life itself. This simple word has inspired this group of friends to put together a charity exhibition to help raise money for ‘Chang Silp 28 Funds’.
Khun Vittaya Sudprasert, one of the alumni members from ‘Chang Silp 28’ Group and the organizer of this charity exhibition, explained that ‘Chang Silp 28 Funds was established a couple years ago with the intention helping our fellow artists who are sick and in need of financial assistance. As a result, we have periodically organized exhibitions to raise money for charitable causes. Recently, after learning that one of our dear friends was diagnosed with leukemia, we decided to stage this charity exhibition, where part of the proceeds will be donated to help him pay for cancer treatments and family expenses. For us, ‘friendship’ is a simple word that has intense and sustaining meaning. For us, this exhibition is the essence of true friendship.’
Under one common theme – friendship – the works featured in this exhibition, entitled ‘from friends-to-friend . . . friends ‘R’ 4-ever’, will describe the definition of the friendship that has profound meaning to this group of artists. Lead by Nonzee Nimibutr, a renowned film director, Sankom Somkid and Sompote Thongdaeng, fifteen artists from ‘Chang Silp 28’ Group have donated their works for the show. These works, which will be shown from July 19, have been created using various techniques and media that include: oil and water color paintings, photography, and computer arts. Also featured in this exhibition are works from four guest artists, Ajarn Pishnu Supanimit, Ajarn Thavorn Ko-udomvit, Ajarn Parinya Tantisuk and Ajarn Somsak Ruksuwan, who have generously donated their paintings as special highlights for the show.
Khun Siripa Chotchung, the managing director of Gossip Gallery @Silom Galleria, will also be the host for this charity art exhibition. ‘It is a privilege to work with Khun Vittaya once again. I am delighted that they have selected Gossip as the venue to host this important exhibition. I too, believe that other than our immediate family members, friends are, the most important people in our life. Acquaintances come and go, but true friendship lasts for a lifetime. I’d like to invite everyone who believes in true friendship to support this worthy cause and appreciate the true meaning of friendship through these exquisite works of art.’
