Hemoglyphs
by Causey Contemporary
Location: Causey Contemporary
Artist(s): Jordan EAGLES
Date: 9 Sep - 2 Oct 2011

Causey Contemporary in conjunction with Krause Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Jordan Eagles’ new solo exhibition, HEMOGLYPHS. This exhibition proposes a visual language based on metaphysical and corporal meanings and multi-panel arrangements using blood as the primary medium. The show will feature a massive, 32 ft. long, abstract mural in blood and resin; a 16 ft. tall work of blood-soaked gauze preserved on plexiglass; a series created with outdoor sun-drying techniques of the blood; and copper-and-blood mixtures on black acrylic boxes.

Opening on September 9 and running through October 2, 2011, this will mark the first solo exhibition for Mr. Eagles with Causey Contemporary.   A public reception will be held with the artist on September 9th from 6 - 9 p.m at the gallery’s Williamsburg Brooklyn location - 92 Wythe Avenue. The public is invited to visit the exhibition during normal gallery hours: Wed. - Sat.  11 a.m. - 7 p.m., Sun. 12 - 6 p.m., or Mon. 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Through his unique process, Jordan Eagles suspends, encases, and permanently preserves animal blood, salvaged from slaughterhouses, in acrylic plexiglass and UV resin.  His innovative technique challenges nature by preventing the works from decomposing.  The works are designed to retain the blood’s natural colors, textures and to expose its finite details. When spot lit, the works become more translucent, cast shadows, and project an intense glow onto the wall behind them.  This effect reveals multiple layers of blood floating in the transparent resin and makes the works appear as if they are illuminated from within.

Eagles’ multidimensional works explore themes of regeneration and the intangible connections between body, spirit and nature. The allegorical potential of his raw and precious materials form a compelling multi-sensory experience—providing a novel tale of death to life.

Jordan Eagles' works are held in the permanent collections of The Everson Museum of Art, The Addison Gallery of American Art, The Mobile Museum of Art, The Fuller Craft Museum, The Museum of Sex, University of Michigan Museum of Art, The Elmhurst Art Museum, The Prudential Center Arena and many private collections around the world. Eagles work has been featured in The New York Times, Village Voice, L'Uomo Vogue, Architectural Digest Italy, New York Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, WIRED, MSNBC, FOX News, NY Post's Page 6 and Marie Claire Italia. His work has been in feature films and a reproduction of one of his images was used as a massive 50-foot stage curtain for Alice Cooper's international rock concert. Eagles has shown extensively in the United States with solo exhibitions and art fairs in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Hartford, Baltimore and Dallas. This will be Eagles first solo exhibition at Causey Contemporary.
