His painting style is that he carves on vinyl tiles or plywood and then paints with oil. For the artist, the scratches and patches on the paintings which are rich in colors and texture symbolizes the passing of time. Kritsana’s compassion for today’s society and his paying homage to Thai women are the influence on his exhibition in February this year entitled Venuses of Bangkok focusing on the strength of Thai women and their changing roles. Some of his paintings feature the contrast and disparity between middle class Thais and the poorer segments of society.
He recently went into a monkhood – a common practice especially for Thai men. He mediated, contemplated about life, good and evil, compassion, selfishness, etc. Out of this introspection came his latest series of self-portraits which focus on his state of mind during his contemplation period. The focus of Kritsana’s work is often on the inner world of individuals, and the struggle for self-realization. Kritsana has participated in several exhibitions in Thailand, as well as in Korea (2003), Spain (2005), and Taiwan (2006).
