Yatra Series- Gordian Knot by Shefali (Vakharia) CHAUHAN

Oil on canvas

Yatra - journey towards light...

From birth to death our inner being is at the mercy of two opposing forces - Ragas (cravings) and Dweshas (aversions). Often we are flung in different directions but a strong determined mind can hold ground and acquire a balance in life by cultivating the practice of equanimity. A strong determined person who sets on Yatra - A Journey from Darkness to Light slowly sees the pull and push of these forces, breaks through various hindrances, overcomes them and gradually moving, experiences the light.

I have tried to portray various aspects of powerful emotions in these paintings. Various colours (and style) are used symbolically to express various feelings. Just as softer tones are used to express positive feelings, darker ones are used to depict negative feelings. The heavy, oppressive colour fade away and are replaced by lighter shades ultimately reaching nearer the goal of perfection, represented by blue and white colours. The strongest emotions of craving and aversion, passion and ego are represented by red, green, brown and dark colours.

In last 10 years as Yatri (traveller) on the Path I have experienced some of this process and have made humble effort of colourfully and symbolically  expressing  it according to my understanding.

Let us begin the Yatra...
