Since 2007 the Omid Foundations have used participatory photography workshops as an important therapeutic tool to address the emotional needs of the young women at the Omid-e-Mehr centre in Tehran. And this private view of Voices of the Other Half, is an exhibition of eleven young female photographers from Iran - curated by Shadi Ghadirian.
The latest workshop Voices of the Other Half is the brainchild of internationally celebrated artist Shadi Ghadirian. Shadi spent seven months with eleven of the young Omid women and helped them to explore the idea of what it means to be a woman. All eleven photographers have managed to engage in life outside of their own, and to observe and frame reality with a new eye. The resulting photographs reveal the perceptive vision and the emotional intensity of these young artists.
Thanks are due to Shadi for her endless devotion to this project and for opening the gates of a new world for the young women at the Omid-e-Mehr center, and to the eleven young artists Elham Aghiani, Fereshteh Ebrahimi, Maliheh Ghaznavian, Farzaneh Mahmoodi, Simin Moadab, Marzieh Mohammadi, Noushin Norouzi, Forouzan Parvani, Nadia Parvani, Samira Razi, and Setareh Sadri.
