A New exhibition featuring the art works of 13 renowned artists

A refreshingly new art exhibition by a select group of highly recommended contemporary Indian artists is to be launched by Bajaj capital Art House in Delhi in early August followed by its showing in Mumbai in October.

‘Beyond the Form’, is a show of creative expressions in a range of media by the group that I have been working with for the last several months. It focuses on the art works not just in terms of their form but search beyond to unearth the underlying or parallel running concerns or issues or emotions or stories that the artists delve into or reflect on, through their art work. This, not to be missed exhibition, offers the viewers an interesting visual and aesthetic panorama of contemporary art from different parts of India in varied expressions, oeuvres, media and genres.

The invited artists include some legendary names as well as emerging stars on the Indian art horizon. The selection was made keeping the thrust of the show and its concept in mind and most of the invited artists have responded by creating special art works that have not been exhibited in any other show before and resonate with the theme. There are stunning paintings and sculptures by star artists Satish Gujral, Jagdish Chintala and Paresh Maity while equally amazing creations can be seen in the canvases by some of the young luminaries including George Martin, Viveek Sharma, Nitish Bhattacharya and Sunil Padwal. The new media inspired art is highlighted in the creations of Vivek Vilasini, TM Azis and Murali Cheeroth while Anil Gaikwad reworks his ideas in juxtaposition of old and new materials. Jayasri and Maya Burman bring alive the old world charm and reflections of folk form in their contemporary coloration. The works in the show are all unique and refreshingly special- indeed a collector’s delight.

The internationally exhibited artists from different regions- ranging from Bhopal to Paris to various Indian metros- are exhibiting paintings, sculptures and new media works that will feature in the accompanying catalogue. In their search beyond the form and beneath the image, the artworks bring forth an interesting and refreshing panoramic view of contemporary Indian art scene. With 32 plus works it is a substantial and meaningful show that will run at the Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Center from 5-7 August 2009 before it moves to Gallery art Positive and then to Mumbai.
