Beneath the secretively opaque surface of the sea, there is vibrant color, exquisite form and fluid movement combined with a tranquil suspension of time and matter.

Sumer for over two decades has immersed himself in that tranquil world; it has become his muse and his obsession. Driven by passion, inspired by the sea and equipped with his DSLR camera in a specifically designed underwater housing with submersible strobes, he has brought the ocean into our lives through his vivid photography.

In a continuously fluid environment with ever changing currents, light and flighty subjects, capturing each image is an elusive and challenging labour of love. It is the deep understanding of the medium and his surroundings that enables Sumer to transcend and translate a brief encounter, an intricate design, a scale, an eye or even a feathered plume into a dramatic still image.
