Aso Shiho is an avant-garde artist with a sense of contemporary. She was fond of reading classical literature and learned Noh, Japanese traditional performing art in high school. To understand Japanese culture further, she studied Japanese style painting. She employs traditional techniques in use to represent “Japanese beauty,” represented by “The Tale of Genji.” Though usually depicting traditional Japanese motifs, such as women, Japanese tattoos, carp, or kimonos, Aso adds contemporary taste. In addition, Japanese traditional iconology features her pieces.
