RL Fine Arts gallery is excited to announce an exhibition by Cuban American artist, Florencio Gelabert, which is being exhibited at RL Fine Arts New York starting on Thursday September 17 to October 24. The exhibition titled, 'Lines & Concavities' continues the artist's exploration of the natural versus the anti-natural intrusion of industry and man. Referencing non-natural simulacra of nature, Gelabert comments on our current status of environmental concern and hysteria as we continue to lose much of our natural landscape and wildlife or witness it's many mutations. Nature reasserts, but at what cost to it's original form?
Gelabert trained as a sculptor at San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts and later at Instituto Superior de Arte, in Havana, Cuba, and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Miami in 1998. Gelabert's work has appeared in museums, collections and public places around the country, in Latin America and in Europe. In 1999 a Latin-American tour exhibition, organized by Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Panama city, Panama; and then exhibited at Museo Jacobo Borges, Caracas, Venezuela. A personal exhibition of his work was organized by the Frost Museum of Art, FIU, Miami in 2009. Recently, 'Column Trees' series, (2007), one of Gelabert's largest sculptures, was installed in the Sculpture Garden at Florida International University's Biscayne Bay Campus in North Miami, FL.
