Sun K. KWAK biography | artworks | events

Sun K. Kwak is a multifaceted artist.One of Ms. Kwak's signature mediums of expression, masking tape allows for each line to be a direct extension of the her intent as an artist. The result is a meditative study of the surrounding environment, a dialog between the spiritual and natural forces that we struggle to reconcile culture-wide.  Her wall drawings can be found permanently installed in public and private spaces. A major public art project has installed in the new Samsung Life Building's lobby in Korea, 2007. This selection was made by the curatorial team of the Leeum Museum, Seoul, Korea. Her smaller masking tape on panel and ink on paper works can be found in private collections around the United States. Sun received her MA from New York University and BFA from Sook Myung University.She has exhibited at The 6th Gwangju Biennale, The Queens Museum, The Drawing Center, CH'I Contemporary Fine Art, Queens Museum at Bulova Center, Sala Alcala`31, Madrid, and The Seoul City Museum. She also received a Pollock Krasner Grant, in 2006, PS.122 Project Studio Residency, an Artist Alliance Residency, and a Henry Street Settlement Artist Residency. She was a visiting artist at Pace University and Santa Monica College as well.
