Point of Contact #5
by Tezukayama Gallery
Location: Tezukayama Gallery
Artist(s): Satoru TAMURA
Date: 1 Mar - 30 Mar 2013

TEZUKAYAMA GALLERY presents Satoru Tamura's solo exhibition"Point of Contact#5" opens upcoming weekend. The exhibition shows recent works from the series "Point of Contact". We could regard the works from the series as electric sculptures. But, the works refuse to be labeled as ordinaly "contemporary art". Because, his works does not have any meanings and contexts. Just simple and clear lighting systems that send an electrical current and light bulbs blink and flash, he says. We do not think, better to enjoy the litght illusion covers the whole gallery space by his elavorately assenbled works.

Tamura was born in Tochigi Prefecture north of Tokyo in 1972, Graduated from the collage of art and design of Tsukuba national university. He has exhibited in Korea, Denmark, Sweden, France, Australia, U.K., U.S.A., Canada, Italy, Poland and a lot of places in Japan.

"I create art based on a theme, destruction of meaning, to seek for artwork of pure white idea with no background. The destruction takes place lightly and never gravely. It may even bring laughter. In the artwork, I would constructively destroy the meaning, or create a situation where no meanings attach. I want to stay liberated from meaning, establishment, and purpose of its material and form. Perhaps, I have doubts about them." Satoru Tamura
