YOD gallery is pleased to feature Taiwanese video artist, Chang Li-Ren's new video works for the first time in Japan. After graduation from National Taiwan University of Arts, she announced 'Classic Skin Flick' while in Graduate Institute of Plastic Arts. The artwork won three prizes in the same year, and was exhibited at Taipei Fine Arts Museum and Shanghai Art Museum as well as the museums in Beijing and Korea the following year.
'Class Skin Flick' series is originated from a porno movie behind a main screen at a movie theatre to avoid the surveillance of military police from 1949 to 1987. It was when whole society was prohibited and personal emotion was regulated by the government. Chang tries to express such ordinary people's life. To pursue true reality and identity in the contradictory life he depicts nude women.
Chang makes generally overlooked reality into artworks. As revealing a meaning of an object surrounded by an ordinary life with cruel expression time to time, he appeals to us pursuing actualities.
