‘hysteresis’ means that irrevocable effect according to changes by a physical phenomenon. Nakagwa’s original motivation started from inquiring mind for longing about how the world would look like if we could handle all phenomenons such as invisible elements or dusts in micro size. His way to work, like using shadow or light on canvas or the grain on panel, and canvas blend together, so that a form causes a form and colour brings colour.
Nakagawa gave up painting something specific or landscape, but has been passionate about the possible world where is invisible, or could exist in somewhere. When facing with his work, people may feel déjà vu or jamais vu, because his painting reminds us of a primitive image everyone has potentially.
In this exhibition, he announces new works, which are drawing on thin veneer.
