Artist(s): Osamu KOKUFU
Date: 9 Nov - 4 Dec 2010
At the ArtCourt Gallery features recent work by Kyoto Prefecture native contemporary artist, Osamu Kokufu (b. 1970), who creates installations using vehicle-type artifacts and plants. For example, the titular work, "Parabolic Garden" (2010) has a miniature garden on a six-wheeled, Mars explorer-style cart. This represents the artist's concept of cutting plants free from the ground. Even though plants live on energy gained from the soil, by se parating them from the ground, Kokufu attempts to shed light on the selfishness of human beings. The artist will also show "Typical Biosphere" (2009), a 4-meters tall tubular greenhouse with a tree and grass inside, which was previously shown at Gunma Museum of Art, Tatebayashi in Gunma Prefecture; till Dec. 4.
