“ I did not have a particular vision of the photographs that I would take. I just loaded the film, and decided simply to start walking outwardly. Trying as much as possible, to capture scenes I had never captured before, extending out, raising my eyes upwards somewhat.” (A postscript from “FUNICULI FUNICULA”)
Take the camera, get out of the house, and take a step out of a familiar town. As Narahasi says, Photography is traces of simple and physical action. However, it’s transformed and reappears with richness and dignity; also it has broadened views and a peculiar sense of distance.
Although photography is a media tool to capture single moments, it catches our sight repeatedly and comes back to us again and again. This amusement comes from “FUNICULI FUNICULA.” As she developed her own way of snapping photos, this is a cornerstone of her series.
