Erika Tan (b. 1967) studied Social Anthropology and Archaeology at Kings College, Cambridge and Film Directing at The Beijing Film Academy, Beijing, followed by an MA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins School of Art, London, UK. Evolving from her interest in anthropology and the moving image, Tan's work is often informed by specific cultural, geographical or physical contexts; exploring different media to create situations that excite, provoke, question, confront and invite comments from an audience. Her works has been exhibited in Singapore as well as internationally, in exhibitions such as Thermocline of Art: New Asian Waves, ZKM Center for Contemporary Art, Karlsruhe, Germany (2007), Singapore Biennale 2006, Around The World in 80 Days, South London Gallery/ICA, London, England (2007), EAST International, Norwich Gallery (2000), Cities on the Move 5, Hayward Gallery, London, UK (1999), and Incommunicado, Hayward Touring exhibition, UK (2003).
